San Gimignano: the city of the towers
Aerial view of San Gimignano located in Tuscany, Italy. The town is famous for its unmistakable skyline, characterised by medieval towers that once numbered around 70, but today only 14 remain. Among these, the Torre Grossa or Torre del Podestà, the tallest at 54 metres, and the Twin Towers of the Salvucci, symbols of the power of the noble families that dominated the city, stand out. From the aerial perspective, one can admire the towers rising elegantly, dominating the panorama of the city. Each tower, with its peculiar height and shape, tells a story and guards the history of the family that built it. Some of them, such as the Torre del Diavolo (Devil's Tower) and the Torre Campatelli (Campatelli Tower), open their doors to visitors, offering a view of the city and the surrounding hills.
