Internal view of the church of Santa Maria del Barsento in Noci with its three aisles
Internal view of the church of Santa Maria del Barsento, located in Noci in Puglia. The church has an irregular layout with three aisles, concluded by apses of different sizes and with barrel vaults supported by pillars of different sizes. Originally, the church was probably a single or binavato hall, with a layered roof and a single apse. In the fifteenth century were added the protyro and the bell tower. The original pavement was made of slabs, later covered by a chache floor. During the excavations, under the floor was found a Byzantine folly of the 11th century and remains of slabs engraved with tabulae lusorie. The natural light entering from the windows enhances the simplicity and beauty of medieval architecture, creating an atmosphere of recollection and serenity.
