The location of the Margherita theater is linked to the pact signed by the city of Bari with the Petruzzelli family. According to this agreement, other theaters could not be built in the city of Bari, except in the case where the building was not built on the sea. The position of the Margherita Theater therefore allowed the city to circumvent the pact.
